Every forum needs an introduction thread. This is it.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you're from, what brings you to Magfest, and give a description so we can recognize you at the con.
OK, I'll start
I'm Steve Simmons, #2 man on your happy security crew. Last year somebody referred to me and Rene Gobeyn, the #1, as "those well-seasoned guys" in convention operations. Yeah, that works. I'm the tall one of those two; look for the ever-receeding hairline and the salt and pepper VanDyke (think a goatee all grown up and on steriods). I'll be wearing the Magfest Security T-shirt and the 'Sgt. Steve' name badge.
To tell the truth, I'm not much of a gamer except for the occasional FPS and the Myst line. Me and my cohorts got dragged into staffing Magfest by Paul and Brendan a couple of years ago when they decided they needed some low-key security that didn't involve badges and guns. We had enough fun that we keep coming back.
In my case, coming back means from dinky Dexter, Michigan. Daytimes I'm a research programmer and system administrator at the University of Michigan. Other times I'm a husband, father, new grandfather (ask for pictures!), folksinger, and general noodge. And about 10 times a year we troop off to a Magfest or Anthrocon or SF con to play security. It's a good gig.
Hugs for all!
Hey there! I'm Steph. I've made the program book for the past 2 years. I wanted to take some of the heat off of Brendan so he didn't have to make it in the wee hours just before it'd go to print. Man works himself to da Bone! >.< But anyone who's seen the others will know the difference I've made. ^_^
Description? I'm one of the few chicks who attend MAGFest (yet becoming less of a minority each year). Long brown hair, 5'6". If anyone knows Pappy, you'll see me on his arm? Uh...not sure what else there is...I go/work lots of anime cons too so I'm in the habit of hugging ppl I know well. I'm a kind of a happy person.
I met Brendan at Wash DC's vgXpo (which was horrible) back in 2005. I kept in touch, we hung out, I helped out with Reg for M4, and I suppose the rest is history. All of our friends are connected so it's always a blast! ^_^;;
I'll be walking around somewhere so if ya see me say hi!
Me?
Well, my name is Zach. I attended MAGFest 4 and last year. I didn't have a ride for M5, heh. But I will be attending this year. Well I found out about MAGFest through Fusion Gaming Convention (formerly MegaCon) here in my hometown of Roanoke. I attended one year after a few of the FGC events and loved it.
You would probably recognize me as being in a group of guys who play in all of the FPS/new-gen console tournaments, haha. We also played in that little Doom PC tournament in the lobby. We came in second because my friend had to quit and loose at Rock Band. We came in second in just about every tournament (called Faded Distortion). I'm usually an all around gamer, though. I play just about anything put before me. I consider myself a hardcore gamer, I guess you'd say. I actually run smaller events in Roanoke now with a group of friends. We range from 50-100 attendees which is nice. I love doing and am hoping to expand a bit.
Hmm... How would you recognize me? Well I'm tall and skinny and tan. Lol. I have a chin-strap beard thingy and a mustache (kinda). I probably will have straight hair sometimes and crazy skater hair the other times. I'll probably be wearing a World of Warcraft or Hurley hat and some sort of gamer or band shirt. Maybe even something crazy.
Hmm... I think thats it. You can ask me anything I guess.
Welcome to DIE!
I worked entirely in LAN last year (mostly checkin, if you walked past the checkin desk for LAN/Jamspace, I was probably there), and was all over the place staffing M5. I'm not much into putting real names on con badges (or on the internet), so I just stick XT-8147 on everything.
I have curly hair, glasses, and a beard that I trim whenever I remember to.
I'm part of the MAGFest Charlottesville Crowd(tm). Reposting/rephrasing some profile info here, my first MAGFest was M4, where I helped out a bit but wasn't actually staff. I staffed M5 and M6, and I'll be staffing M7. I'm mostly into racing games, but I'm almost not a total scrub at Guilty Gear and Melty Blood, and I've been playing the hell out of Guitar Hero lately. Only stopped because after the third solder fix (which was just a few days ago :( ) the detachable neck finally gave out on me and refuses to send the signal for the green fret button no matter what.
this signature left blank intentionally.
THE BK BOY
MF IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!
HOLLA!!!!!!
Well, sure!
My online handle is Emptyeye, and I have a website.
On a more serious note, I've been coming to MAGFest since M4. If anyone watched the Pianotoads performance at M6, I was the one who actually played the game. Besides that, I spend a lot of my time in the game room, to the point that I placed third in the MAGFest challenges last year as well. Outside of MAGFest, I also do speedruns; the non-obsolete ones are currently for Willow, The Magic of Scheherazade, Rygar, and Astyanax.
I'm pretty short, about 5'4", and have a bald spot on my head (Which will no doubt be obscured by my cool "MAGFest Video Game Expert" hat that I won at M6). Like I said, I'm in the game room a lot of the time, so if you ever want to meet me, look there.
Hey!
Hello everybody. I was at MAGfest VI and that was my first time attending. I had wanted to go since M3 but never pulled my stuff together in time. I've been a member of the Minibosses forum over at the shizz for a long time...about 5 years now I think. So some of you may recognize me from there! I'm actually from Kansas City, Missouri. I might be driving this year so keep an eye out for the share rides section if you live near me!
I play a lot of different games, but mainly NES. It is definitely hard to pick favorite games...but I'd have to go with deja vu, megaman 2, ninja gaiden 2, mike tyson's punchout, and the majority of the resident evil series. I'm sure I could sit down with any of you guys and talk about other games for quite some time...but eh thats what M7 is for right?
I play guitar and plan on doing some stuff in the jamspace this year...I was a little intimidated last year and realized that I shouldn't have been. Oh well, I can be kinda quiet at first but will gladly open up with anyone friendly. I am just about done with my electrical and computer engineering degree so I happen to know a lot about electronics and programming...I've been working on something that a lot of people will appreciate :)
I'm about 5.9 dark hair, skinny but pretty muscular...hah last year Akumu asked me if I was a fighter..haha yeah right. I plan on being rather stinking drink this year...it was a sober experience last year and I think its time to get a little more crazy.
I'm obsessed with buckethead and will probably play some of his songs in the jamspace until someone chokes me out. Alright thats good enough for now, I'm excited to see all of you again!
MAGFEST FOR LIFE
Hi, I draw robot dragons for a living. I've been to the past 2 MAGFESTS. It just keeps on getting better and better each year. I look forward to the concerts and jamspace action this year. Also, maybe I'll pwn some knobs at T&C Surf Design. We'll see how I feel....
Hey All
My name is Warchamp7 online and I've used that name for over 10 straight years now.
I'm a very avid gamer and have been since I could hold a NES controller. I'm not 100% sure I'll be attending this year but the chance is fairly good. I'm already roomed up with a buddy and two of his friends that I know. Hopefully things work out by the time MAGfest rolls around.
Anyway, assuming I show up, I'll likely be hanging around the Smash Bros. area and possibly the LAN area if I lug along my PC.
Eh...
just cause people might be looking for me again this year. I will prolly be the guy running around doing tournaments (at least making a good attempt at it again). Got started at Mag 5 and was the guy in the TMNT shirt last year. Names Alex, and if you need me, then good luck finding me.
As for a description... haven't gotten the wardrobe picked out but i will prolly go for a mohawk just to stand out some. Oh and i might be wearing a MAGFest staff shirt.
ii%20jastnorn%20ii.
I'm Blees
Yeah.
I'm not sure if I'm coming. I really want to; it sounds cool, but I'd be coming from Minnesota.
I found this site from EEGRA.
If I do dress up, it will probably be something uncoordinated, like a pink shirt, blue pants, and an orange hat.
And maybe a ninja mask too.

I am Clinton AKA the Chief (trek not halo) or Cy1onHunter on xbox live. This will be my first magfest. I ran into brendan at my former employer early in the summer. I think he may be the one man who has more stuff in his car than I do on a paintball weekend.
I will try to wear my old arsenal jersey the first day. it's bright yellow with SEGA written across the front. I am 5'8 average build, brown thinking curly hair and glasses.
looking forward to console gaming and concerts most. hopefully AVGN will be up for drinks in the lounge.

Welllllll I'm Robert and I come from eastern Virginia woot woot. I'm evilralphwiggum/evilralfwiggum on the internets. I have a youtube channel where i've made and uploaded over 350 videos (mostly video game videos) onto. Magfest VII will be my first Magfest.
I'm an avid gamer. I'm a jack of all trades.
Recently I've set some crazy Tetris Party records.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EO_qTy14yg
I got 13,490 Lines and scored over 37,000,000 points on endless marathon mode (that was an extremely long game lol)
For line count I'm ranked 7th in the world 1st in USA (as of Nov. 29th)
For points I'm ranked 11th in the world 2nd or 3rd in USA (as of Nov. 29th)
I've beaten Mega Man 9 in 27-28 Minutes.
I love fighting games.
I'm a master at 2D Mario.
I haven't fully beaten a 3D Zelda or Mario Game and i'm ashamed of this.
lol
I'm looking forward to the tournaments and also that NES Challenge room.
If there is a Tetris tournament of any kind I'd be embarrassed if I lost it lol.
Me and my friend Mike and a few more friends already booked a room.
I'm bringing a DS so if anyone wants to play me in Tetris (or whatever else) I'm game. lol
I could go on forever about everything gaming so on that note I'll just stop this here lol
Hi!
Figured I'd say hi, in case there's anyone here I haven't met.
I'm Jake Kaufman, also known as virt, and I've been to every MAGFest so far. It's the only time of year I get to see many of my friends (and make lots of new ones), so I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I'll be doing various music-related stuff, rocking with my band The Smash Brothers, playing chiptunes in Jamspace, selling my new Kwakfest album, giving a panel on how to write music rapidly, building a pillow fort in the main lobby with the Fat Man (NO GIRLS ALLOWED), and getting in as many forms of trouble with as many people as possible.
Come up and say hi! I'll be the portly, sweaty, oddly energetic Jew with a goatee and various hats made by my Nerd Bride, Kristi, who will herself be running a Knitting Circle with any interested craftgeeks.
Under a month now, CAN'T WAIT!

Almost MAGtime
This will be my fourth fest. I actually found out about it in the little calender section of Game Informer. So glad I did, Magfest is the high point of my year, can't believe it coming around again but I'm happy as hell. I remember last year my fuckin Windstar broke down the night before I was leaving. I stayed out in the cold all night fixing it. It got me there but broke down on the way back. Family had to come pick me up, it was a sad day (but FUCKING WORTH IT!) I saw the Advantage band there last year. One of the most incredible things I had ever seen, I bought their $15 CD immediately (first time in years).
Anyway I went to Fusion about 2 years ago won the GH tournnment, but not that good anymore people have gotten sick on that game. I have been playing a shit load of Halo so I might try to step up this year. I just want to see my Magfest buddies and hang out, I will actually have a room this year. So I will be drunk at least one night. I'll be the chubby black guy with the Chewbacca shirt and maybe a GH2 shirt. Hope to see everyone and have another incredible year. And thanks Brendan you don't know how much this means to me.
Hello!
I'm Jordan, gamer handles Trunks or Pooky, with prefix Chibi and/or suffix 112278 as necessary.
This will be my first time attending a festival of any sort, but I'm very excited to meet other people who actually like video games as much as I do.
I live in Northern Virginia, so I'm debating between getting a room and just trying to metro home. Any advice from experienced locals?
Gamingwise, I love building characters - as such, I tend to lean toward RPGs (or games with heavy RPG elements). I do like nearly every other type of game as well, with the possible exception being "social" games (think: the Barbie series).
See you all there!

Yes, it's a referral link!
Hi, I'm Rez, and I've been to
Hi, I'm Rez, and I've been to every single MAGFest, and staffed MAGFest I-IV. V and on, I decided to just cut loose, and party my ass off. :D
I'm the one that could be considered the Cheers "Norm!" of MAGFest. I'm known for beer consumption, and smoking a lot.
Oh yeah, and virt totally handed me my ass in Iron Editor at the Friends and Gamers Festival. Watch virt's winning video
here.
I can be usually found hanging with X-Strike Studios crew, or PBC Productions crew. And yeah, I'm so much of an X-Strike Studios whore, I totally made a custom water-cooled computer rig devoted to them. :D
What's up people...
I'm Crash. Crash the Bix is my tag on live. This is my first MAGFest. really looking forward to it. It's been in my backyard every year, but something always comes up. I'm a DC-MD boy, and will be representing for PG County in the Tournaments.
I beat SMB, Final Fantasy, and Jaws for NES, and Sid Meier's Pirates on the Commodore 64 by age 7, and ever since, I've been addicted. I'm an old school gamer for sure, and collecting old consoles and rarities is one of my greatest pleasures. Currently, I have a working model of every removable-media based system released in the US over the last 30 years except a Jaguar and a CollecoVision. And yes, I have a Virtual Boy and a Fairchild Channel F.
By lifestyle, I'm a Video Game Hippie. I believe in taking it easy, enjoying life, and bonding over games. If you are a chill person, down to talk deeply about games, look for me.
I'll be around almost all day Thursday through Saturday, mostly with my friend Mike. May have a few more people coming with us. Look for me around the NES room, Smash Bros., 3rd Strike, or the Jamspace. Also, if someone is doing something ridiculous, damn good chance it's me.
I'm frequently be-kilted. So that's a clue.
Hello loves <3
I'm Sarah, known by many handles. I tried to go to MAGFest last year but didnt have a ride. So hopefully I'll be able to attend the next one.
Confused about my name? Bridget is my FAVORITE male video game character ^^ Ayane would be my fav female vid game character. I'll most likely end up cosplaying as them at the next MAGFest ^3^
