I am a casual gamer that is thinking about going to his first Magfest (in a month). I haven't really played Games actively, since the Nintendo 8 bit days (misses how simple those controllers were). Is Magfest a good first con for someone who is a casual fan? How can a more casual fan fit into Magfest's vibe?
Yes
I am also a casual gamer. There are lots of things to do at magfest. They have all the systems. I played smb 1 at magfest last year.
mag vibe
mag is really a vibe all its own. Regardless of your gaming background, there's stuff there you can enjoy. Since there's just such a huge amount of stuff to do, there's so much you can try out. The concerts are so high energy that it doesn't matter if you recognize the songs, you can still rock out anyway.
Totally friendly
I don't get to game constantly like others. So I love Magfest because I can sit down with Duck Hunt, or Rockband, or maybe some tetris attack and just enjoy life. Yea, there will be hardcore people there but it's no less fun for those just wanting to sit down and play old games, or even try new ones for the first time.
Heck, I think at M6 (is that when it came out?) a couple mag attendees showed me how to play Guitar Hero for the first time.
So really it's just an awesome atmosphere for everyone.
casual
I'm a very casual gamer, I go for the social fun and to hit up retro games. Trust me you'll have a blast!
hells yes
MAGfest is great for someone like you then, since a lot of people (that I know at least) actually still love and play the old 8 bit and 16 bit gen consoles and bring their collections with them for the set up. Plus, you can request games in the kickass 24/hr gaming room, so if you go in there and don't see a game you want, change it.
Also, MAGfest is great for just partying and rocking out as well <3
