This is information left over from MAGFest 8. We've left it here for posterity, and in case Sic Semper Tyrannis decides to run another LARP at MAGFest.
We're excited to announce that the Northern Virginia Cthulhu Live group Sic Semper Tyrannis will be running two Live Action Role Play events. The Auction is a classic Cthulhu Live event, and Quarter For Your Thoughts is an event with a videogame theme written exclusively for MAGFest.
Characters and props will be provided for both events. Costuming is highly encouraged but not required. Attendees can just show up and play, although anyone who wants their character description in advance in order to costume appropriately should email phr3dtheripper@gmail.com for details.

The Auction: 7pm - 11pm on Fri, Jan 1
In August 1956, the wealthy shipping magnate J.M. Vanderstowe perished in a plane crash over the Appalachian mountains. This eccentric recluse left no heirs to his estate and all assets were turned over to his corporation. Unknown to the general public, Mr. Vanderstowe was a passionate collector and student of the occult whose wealth and international contacts permitted him to gather a priceless collection of occult artifacts and curiosities from around the globe. The exact contents of his collection have remained a guarded mystery, but speculations abound.
Mr. Seth Applegate, the executor of Vanderstowe's estate, has invited a small group of scholars, collectors and museum representatives to a private auction of the late Mr. Vanderstowe's collection. This invitation only event will see one of the largest conglomerations of supposed arcane artifacts ever to be in one place at one time before they're split up and sent into the world with the auction winners. This will be the chance of a lifetime for attendees to get their hands on some of the most sought-after items the mystical world has ever known.
The Auction is a Classic Cthulhu Live event set in 1956 New Orleans, perfect for new players and veterans alike to get a traditional taste of Lovecraftian madness in a LARP setting. Characters and props will be provided. Costuming is highly encouraged. This event may contain mature themes that may not be suitable for children.
Quarter For Your Thoughts: 2pm - 6pm on Sat, Jan 2
A lone arcade cabinet sits tucked away in the back room of a dive bar on Route 66 just outside of Joseph City, Arizona. Little do the owners and regular patrons know, this game is one of the most sought after games in arcade history. Stories of the game's addictiveness inciting criminal activity, suicide and even murder go back to the early 80's when it's initial run was pulled from arcades and destroyed. Although no copies were said to have survived, rumors pop up from time to time of cabinets appearing in strange places across the world.
Nobody knows quite how long this unit has been here and it rarely ever gets played, but that's about to change. An anonymous photograph posted to a video game forum on the Internet has alerted the world to it's presence. Collectors, enthusiasts and world-renowned players are all headed to this hole-in-the wall desert bar to see if the rumors are really true. This is one game however, that may have been better off lost to history.
Quarter For Your Thoughts is a Cthulhu Live event written exclusively for the MAGFest 8 audience, interweaving the terrors of the Cthulhu Mythos with arcade history and lore. Characters and props will be provided. Costuming is highly encouraged. This event may contain mature themes that may not be suitable for children.
