MUGEN

I wish I asked when I was there, but where did the guy with MUGEN get his compilation?

Don't try to tell me he manually edited and installed all the slots on the select screen and all of those characters. I just can't find a torrent that's seeding with the characters I want. If I wanted to play as SFII characters, I'd play SFII. I wanna play as Dracula and Haruhi. XD

MUGEN

I asked the guy, and maybe he just wasn't being forthcoming because I was just watching them play in passing, but his response was, "there are a lot of places online where you can get characters." I'm sure you can find some compilations, but when I tried looking (admittedly, more than a few years ago), it looked like characters were mostly offered piecemeal.

Well he probably did. A number of themes have select screens with a small, medium, and large setting. Setting it on large can give you a lot of slots on some themes.

Now, I didn't see what he had so this is pure speculation but it's quite possible it was manual over a period of time.

Out of curiosity, how many characters we talking? :P

There were easily over a

There were easily over a hundred characters. I happened to witness Fred Flintstone vs. Bender. It looked like fun, though I never sat down to play. I think I have Mugen installed here somewhere, never really bothered to look for characters/themes though.

this signature left blank intentionally.

Is a lot of work for that

Over 1000 characters

Hi, this is one of the guys

Hi, this is one of the guys who brought the Everything vs. Everything MUGEN. I'm afraid the specific compilation of MUGEN we brought to MAGFest is not available online - we put it together ourselves. We downloaded MUGEN after hearing about it at Otakon 2006, and we've been adding characters to it ever since. The Everything vs. Everything screenpack for the game has slots for about 800 characters in the setup we use. (There's also a category-based setup that can store something like 10,000 characters, although it looks a lot less impressive.)

All (well, nearly all) of the components of our MUGEN are available separately online, though. When we first downloaded it, I did find a torrent that provided a lot of characters to start with, but a lot of them were flawed in some way and have since been dropped/replaced. The best way to find characters for MUGEN is not to look for a torrent that contains a bunch, but rather to look for specific characters you want.

Good sites to start with:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.U.G.E.N (Overview)
http://randomselect.piiym-net.com/ (Download the software here and some popular characters/stages/etc.)
http://www.mugen-infantry.net/ (Lots of new stuff for the game gets posted here, and they archive a lot of screenpacks and such)
http://www.google.com/ (Generally, if you type in a character/source game/etc. and add "mugen" to the search, you can at least get some pointers)

However, if anyone wants a specific character or such (not a huge block), I can dig the links up for them (assuming they're still available) and post them here on request.

Dracula - http://www.geocities.jp/raigu_giraru/mugen_cha.html
Haruhi - http://page.freett.com/choiya7/chara.htm

Hope that helps...
