Welcome to Music and Gaming Radio

Thanks for stopping by. This page aims to get you started with listening, and you can help the station improve, too!

Quick, lemme listen!

If you're eager to start listening and you already have an Ogg Vorbis capable player (Winamp, Foobar2000, VLC), look up and click the speaker icon. Or, if you have Java, the other link with the arrow will pop out a cute little player in its own window for you.

How do I know what's next?

We have a super-beta-whatever AJAX playlist thing that works most of the time. When we're running a live show, it won't update properly.

VGMdb

You might be here because of VGMdb. We recently worked with VGMdb to implement a request system and it's actually pretty sweet. I don't have to do any database management on my end. I feel we have an excellent relationship with VGMdb and it has everything to do with game music so it makes perfect sense that we would want to integrate somehow.

Requesting something from our playlist

Available tracks for air are on our MAGradio collection page. Click on any CD in the list and you'll be taken to a tracklist with cute little audio icon button things. Then just click on the one next to the song you want. We check for requests every song change, but if someone else made a request ahead of yours there'll be a delay before you hear your own. If we're running a show, you'll probably want to wait until it's over to make a request.

Send us new stuff to play!

We're always looking for cool game-related stuff to play on the radio station. But unless it's freely-available material, we need to own it and have permission to play it. Fortunately, if you're a musician or a label, you're probably able to help us with both of those things. We want to keep the quality of the station high, so please bear the following in mind when submitting material:
  • We still have to listen to and approve submissions.
  • If you want your CD to be linked BACK to VGMdb, make sure your album has a unique catalog number. This is not a UPC and you can just make it up. For example, the OneUps use OUS-xxx for their catalog. The Minibosses use KRAIDx. King Records uses KICA-xxxx.
  • Material needs to be originals. Since the audio is already getting encoded, we don't want your stuff to be encoded a second time. The audio quality suffers, so we don't take MP3s, and we don't take MP3s burned as an audio CD. Please burn the original WAV or AIFF renders if you have to burn anything. We're format-savvy and can also accept FLAC or other lossless formats.
  • We'll need an email or something written that states we're allowed to play it.
Also, if you're not an artist you might have some game soundtracks kicking around. If you'd like to donate physical copies to a good cause, we'd be happy to accept them and we'll do the legwork to get them played.

Live Shows!

Every week or two, someone will take over the stream completely and we'll either DJ live or host a live performance. The automatic request system, naturally, will not work during this time. However, you can chat with us on IRC during the show, and request songs that way. In the future, we'd really like to set up automatic downloading and syndication of other folks' videogame shows and podcasts. Get in touch if that sort of thing interests you.

Bumpers needed

As it stands, we only have a few bumpers being aired between songs. If you're a game composer, arranger, or personality, feel free to record a "This is ________ and you're listening to Music and Gaming Radio" blurb for us. Feel free to ad lib, mention your affiliations ("from [music group]"), projects ("the composer of [game]"), or just say something amusing. If you want, include a little music jingle. Just have a good time! Please send us your submission in a lossless format, just like with music.
