Filmmakers

For years, MAGFest has been a gathering place for gaming related film makers around the world. Whether it's people who parody video game movies, serious ones, or people people who have their own original series online, they all come out to party with us, and show off the latest stuff they're working on. We announce new filmmakers throughout the year, so keep checking back for updates! Here's who we've announced so far this year:

Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'?

Anthony and Ashly Burch are the creators, stars, and writers of "Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'," the sort-of-popular web series about videogames, cupcakes, and surrealism. It's decent, I guess.

Once Upon a Pixel

Ashley Davis is the creator of Once Upon a Pixel, a series on Gametrailers that retells videogame stories in weird (and often cute) ways. She is also an associate editor at Destructoid.com, a freelance cartoonist, and a cartoon/pop culture/toy/duck enthusiast.

Noah "Spoony" Antwiler

Noah Antwiler is the award-winning creator and host of the popular online video review show, "The Spoony Experiment." For over three years he’s created a hilarious series of videos and blog entries skewering all aspects of nerd culture, from movies to video games to comic books. He's starred on the ASU mainstage, in the Channel Awesome feature film "Kickassia" as Dr. Insano, and as POLYGAMON in the upcoming film Press Start 2 Continue! You can join in on the madness by visiting spoonyexperiment.com!

Angry Video Game Nerd

James Rolfe, a film buff, grew up making absurd movies in his backyard. He went to college for filmmaking, made a variety of short films such as "Cinemaphobia", "Legend of the Blue Hole" and "The Deader the Better". He is known today for his web series, "Board James", "You Know What's Bullshit", various movie reviews, and most famously "The Angry Video Game Nerd" where he plays the bad-mouthed,foul tempered gamer geek ranting about the frustrating games from the past. James has been running his website Cinemassacre.com for 10 years and counting, and has produced over 95 episodes of Angry Video Game Nerd.

There Will Be Brawl

Matt Mercer and Zach Grafton, creators of the hit web series There Will Be Brawl, will be traveling all the way from California to join us at MAGFest this year. The creators describe TWBB as, "a non-profit web series designed as a dark, dramatic parody of the popular Super Smash Bros. Brawl video game for the Nintendo Wii. [We] are avid fans of Nintendo, and this series has been developed as an homage to the colorful characters of SSBB that we all know and love."

SollarSystems Studios

Known for the hit "MegaMan" fan film, Director Eddie Lebron (www.eddielebron.com), Producer David Horowitz, and Producer Daniel Horowitz are the key members of "SollarSystems Studios". Their biggest current project is the live action Sonic the Hedgehog fan film starring Jaleel White as the voice of "Sonic". This marks their 3rd MagFest visit and they hope to party and game like nobody's business! Care to join?

Happy Video Game Nerd

What started as a loving spoof, became much more. For over 3 years now, Derek Alexander's AVGN-approved character, the Happy Video Game Nerd, has spotlighted some of the greatest forgotten and underrated retro games, from Splatterhouse and Earthbound, to Clash at Demonhead and MetalStorm, producing informative videos more akin to short-film documentaries than traditional reviews. Since he chooses lesser-known titles, his videos are often among the most-viewed for that game. Derek is also 1/2 of prolific electronic duo Starship Amazing. He and his musical cohort, Calvin Hansen, also host a weekly podcast, aptly-titled, Podcast Amazing. If Derek looks a little tired at his Q & A, blame the long flight from Alaska. Please do not ask him about Sarah Palin.

Retroware TV

Retroware TV (www.retrowaretv.com) is the source for original classic gaming video series and conversation on the web. Retroware TV contributors produce videos that provide histories, reviews and insights into retro gaming and gaming culture. With forums and user blogs, the Retroware TV community engages in conversation on various topics, making it a great resource for fans of retro gaming. Retroware TV's original web series include Happy Video Game Nerd, Video Game Take Out, The Gaming Historian, From Pixels to Plastic, Pat the NES Punk, Peanut Butter Gamer, Boomstick Reviews, Jam Enslaver, Guru Larry's Retro Corner, Game Quickie, RetroBeats, The Ben & Derek Podcast and the guys from RDub Force (Tiger Claw TV, Rask's Virtual Classics, CDI, and RetroActive) and of course Retroware TV - The Show. There's always new content about old games on Retroware TV.

Maffew

Maffew is the creator of the long-running Botchamania video series, which can sometimes be found on YouTube. The series showcases the very worst of wrestling along with the very best of Video Game Music, so Maffew will be attending MAGfest to discuss the finer points of 'Super Sonic Racing' to justify him being there. Botchamania has just reached it's 150th video and now has it's own (sponsored!) website. Maffew lives in the UK and has played 'Never Have I Ever' with Jon St. John.
